CTM.12 Warm Up
The 13th CTM - Festival For Adventurous Music and Related Arts kicked off with their traditional warm-up weekend prior to the opening concert on Monday January 30th. A series of exhibitions at Kunstraum Kreuzberg revive "dead technologies" for the digital age.
Ghosts Off the Shelf, curated by Thibaut de Ruyter, reflects an era where recycling old media sources in the process of re-visioning the past becomes an important component in the development of further creations. Also tying in to these themes are the Spectral installation program and the Crystal World Open Laboratory, which shows how metals and materials found in digital devices (gold, silver, palladium, silicon) are recovered by mechanical and chemical methods.
Info for all three exhibitions:
Where: Kunstraum Kreuzberg / Bethanien | Mariannenplatz 2, 10997 Berlin
Admission: free
Duration: January 28 – February 5, 2012, daily 12:00 – 19:00
Another highlight of Warm up weekend was Nik Nowak's object "Panzer" (Tank), an artistic representation of a sound weapon that echoes the aesthetics of military "stealth" technologies, the brute force of armored vehicles and the culture of mobile sound systems. Nowak will be featured in an interview on the videoblog later in the week.
CTM.12 Festival proper will commence on 30th of January, running until the 5th of February. Concerts, discussions, installations and events will take place all over the city. Some of the highlights are performances by Manuel Göttsching and Eliane Radigue and new interpretations of the late Conrad Schnitzler's work.
