Martin Heckelmann's experimental short film edits real satellite pictures, obtaining manipulated, yet seemingly authentic topographies. The solemn look on landscapes and cities mutates to a military one with areas like Afghanistan or Iraq being depicted.

A slow flight over an edited topography. The increasing concentration of acoustic atmospheres and subtle, visual occurrences (planes cross the visual field, clouds are moving over landscapes, cars are driving on the streets) ends with the crash of the satellite over Los Angeles, which, in fact, turns out to be the garden of the director's parents in Hamburg-Sasel.

Director's statement:

“The satellites are 'bodyguards', observers of our lives on the ground. By their distance they enable an overview, strategic intelligence and control. With them, we elevate ourselves over ourselves onto a godlike position of distanced observation that is usually not available to our bodies. The great distance apparently also changes the moral standard: what seems beyond measure and cruel on the ground, looks fair and justified from a great height.”
