Three female taxi drivers who live and work in the 4 million metropolis of Xian in China. They steer through traffic 10 hours a day, 365 days a year. This documentary also shows their daily war against the authorities, customs and taxes.

“If there is a life after this, I would rather be a dog than a human. Being human is very exhausting”. That’s how Mrs. Wang, Mrs. Duan and Mrs. Yu feel. The Xian cab drivers are known as the “taxi sisters”. They have been cab drivers for over 10 years – and driving a cab here is no easy task. Work is stressful, debts are piling up, and officials are corrupt. Along with the crooks and gangsters, every day life on the job is a real challenge. But while most of their former colleagues are out of work, the “taxi sisters” count themselves lucky, they have a job and earn their own living.

We join these three women as they cruise their city and visit them at home after work. Their intriguing and touching stories about every day life as part of the uncompromising economic growth plan in China. An homage to the art of survival in hard times: “We don’t believe in God or Satan, we just believe in us”.
