Banned Cartoons
These seven short animated cartoons have never been broadcast although they were made by prestigious studios in the genre's heyday. BANNED CARTOONS shows these censored films without any commentary, which challenges us to understand why they were banned in the first place. Viewing them in the context of moral values prevelant at that time is one way to investigate the reasons.
In our enlightened day and age, the subtle eroticism seen in some of these 'toons will no longer ruffle any feathers. But the disgraceful, distasteful and disrespectful racism in “Scrub Me Momma” will.
The use of product placement is equally outlandish and the film “Easy Does It” is pure advertising. It plugs Stokely Van Camp, a real life company known today as the ConAgra Foods Corporation. Granted, this type of in your face product placement is taboo nowadays, but frankly, it is much more entertaining than the commercials on the boob tube today!

Little Black Sambo – a little boy, his mother, a dog, a tiger, and lots of action.
Ha! Ha! Ha! - a superb Betty Boop Clip about laughing gas. You'll laugh without the gas!
The storekeeper and his assistant discuss a tricky business deal in 'Easy Does It'.
Opening Night – Opera really can be pretty funny.
Scrub Me Mama With a Boogie Beat – the black folks in Lazytown are just that, l-a-z-y. At least until a boat docks with a light skinned gal on board who turns the town upside down. Who thought up this garbage?
Christmas Night - a bizarre 'social realist' Christmas tale featuring 'The Little King'.
In a Cartoon Studio – this clip is a jolly take on the making and consuming of cartoons.
