Punk, performance and freestyle electronics. Retro-sound, retro-style. This might not be 1976 (the film was made in 2006) but it's good to know that the experimental, DYS creativity of that era is still relevant to a new generation of (female) performers who make experimental, alternative music.

How experimental? The band that goes by 100 different names (“z.B.:...”) plays 'beat box' on the zippers of their pullovers. Not all the bands offer such unique work. But if you ever wondered what it's like to belt out improv on stage or how to start your own band, this film will inspire. Director Bernadette Reiter interviews nine all-female and mixed-gender bands from the Vienna performance and alternative music scene. She mixes color with black and white and edits the loud, freaky and fun concert footage with intimate interviews. Reiter's film documents the women who want to get heard. Some of the groups make no bones about their feminist agenda, while others, like the thankfully silicone-free “Silicone Pumpgun” freely acknowledge their more mainstream influences (such as Madonna).
