One Day Today Will Be Once
One Day Today Will Be Once
Begun in 2000, "Organ2/ASLSP" by John Cage (a pioneer of 20th century avant-garde music) is being played “As Slow As Possible” in a performance that explores new dimensions of time and sound. It promises to be the longest concert of all time.
The performance was initiated by citizen's group that is passionate about the project. Its members meet four times a year to discuss, among other things, how to find and inspire successors to continue the concert. Although the group's honorary members all have professional and social commitments elsewhere, this project gives them the opportunity to explore their own attitudes toward time.
The filmmaker explores the humorous as well as the deeper philosophical aspects of the John Cage organ project. For her, the “discovery of slowness” also means uncovering the various strategies human beings use to conceptualize time: What does time mean? Can it be altered? And are we really in a position to slow down life?
