Making It Big in Berlin

Berlin is full of young freelancers who have found alternatives to the standard nine-to-five job. The city's low rents and space for creative ideas make it possible. Competition and money aren't foremost in everyone's minds.

People here seem to do their own thing. Four of them: a seamstress-café owner, a freelance journalist, and two modern dancers, give insights into what it's like to live on their own as freelancers. All of them belong to the class of well-educated, creative self-employed struggling with job insecurity and the desire for self-realization.
