Readings from the diaries of Prague-born novelist and playwright Pavel Kohout are at the center of this 2008 documentary by Czech filmmaker Radim Procházka. A Prague Spring exponent and dissident, Kohout was expelled to Austria in the 1970's.

With painstaking accuracy, Pavel Kohout records in his diaries events of his daily life. Thanks to this devotion, the social and personal vicissitudes in the life of this Czech writer can be derived from random reading of diary passages. Director Radim Procházka weaves a portrait of the artist against the background of preparations for a performance of selected parts of his novels (under the direction of J. A. Pitínský) and recordings from a public celebration of Kohout's 80th birthday, which was attended for symbolic reasons by Czech political and cultural elites.
