This documentary by Ivo Bystřičan investigates the role of the global economy in the privatization of Zambia's mines and why one of the largest copper exporting nations remains dependent on outside aid.


Although Zambia is one of the largest exporters of copper in the world, it remains an impoverished country dependent on outside aid. Zambia privatized its mines at a time when global copper prices fell. Later, when copper prices recovered, most of the money flowed to pockets outside the country. Since privatization, the country and its people receive almost no revenue from the exports of its own natural resources. An absurd story courtesy of the global economy in which money from Europe also plays a role.
