There is so much graffiti in Berlin. So many tags, stickers, stenciled and sprayed artworks. Why did I choose this image? First of all the Giacometti-like figures in black caught my attention. Just a few lines build these evocative figures. What are they looking at - and why are they doing it in tandem? The Continue Reading

Berlin Diary: Green Is My City
Posted on August 18, 2011 by xhiller
Looking down at my feet (highly advisable in Berlin, where dogs have undisciplined owners…) I noticed that the heavy rains had sprouted a bouquet of vevelty mushroom - right tight against the crumbly brick wall - with some lush dandylions as next door neighbors.
All in all a peaceful coexistance.
Xhiller is dedicated to the preservation of Continue Reading

Berlin Diary: Guerrilla Knitting and the Crochet Queen
Posted on August 2, 2011 by xhiller
Guerrilla Knitting, like Guerrilla Gardening, is a new fad that is catching on quickly. As one blogger put it: Guerrilla Knitting is stealing graffiti artists the show. This bridge improvement project was spotted in Berlin’s Görlitzer Park. It’s not just the color, it’s the texture. The impulse to touch it. And perhaps best of all Continue Reading

Berlin Diary: Laguna Berlin
Posted on June 3, 2011 by xhiller
Berlin in the summer - the air warmed by the day’s sun and fragrant with the perfume of countless blossoms. And sunsets after 10 pm! Berlin laguna on the Spree at Treptower Park. The bridge in the photo leads to the Insel der Jugend - the Island Of Youth, a small island in Continue Reading

Berlin Diary
Posted on May 11, 2011 by xhiller
xhiller found this stenciled tile artwork in Görlitzer Park. A ceramic tile piece that is well-hidden (similar to the type of work that Tona does) but with a message that is loud and clear (and in unmistakable Pop Art visual language): we all need an EMERGENCY TIME OUT BUTTON. For a close-up of the button Continue Reading

Berlin Diary: What’s In a Sign?
Posted on February 22, 2011 by xhiller
Berlin, bitterly cold in February. Although that deep blue sky could easily fool you into thinking that it’s summer or early autumn. The wind cut so cold in open stretches of Görlitzer Park that even the camera went on strike. And I thought electronics liked cold….
Someone must have taken offense at that sign. It reads Continue Reading

Berlin Diary: Unlike U - Trainwriting in Berlin

Berlin subway train
Since watching the trailer to UNLIKE U - TRAINWRITERS IN BERLIN, I think about train sprayers every single time I get into a subway car. The filmmakers went deep into the sprayer scene to capture a true sense of what it means to be a trainwriter. No, xhiller is not driving the train Continue Reading
