One of realeyz.tv’s translators asked me to look for work by ALIAS. Hmmm. OK. Then, really and truly purely by chance, I ran into a stencil work at Mariannenplatz next to the Bethanien’s new little skateboard set-up. Seems that Kunstraum Kreuzberg will be featuring skater films. Sounds right up our alley! ALIAS - very dramatic Continue Reading

Berlin Diary: What Do You See?
Posted on September 14, 2011 by xhiller
There is so much graffiti in Berlin. So many tags, stickers, stenciled and sprayed artworks. Why did I choose this image? First of all the Giacometti-like figures in black caught my attention. Just a few lines build these evocative figures. What are they looking at - and why are they doing it in tandem? The Continue Reading

Berlin Diary: Green Is My City
Posted on August 18, 2011 by xhiller
Looking down at my feet (highly advisable in Berlin, where dogs have undisciplined owners…) I noticed that the heavy rains had sprouted a bouquet of vevelty mushroom - right tight against the crumbly brick wall - with some lush dandylions as next door neighbors.
All in all a peaceful coexistance.
Xhiller is dedicated to the preservation of Continue Reading

Berlin Diary: When the Sun Won’t Shine
Posted on July 22, 2011 by xhiller
If the sun won’t shine, there’s always a sunflower! Snapped this beauty in the parking lot of our realeyz.tv offices. Guerrilla gardening bears fruit! Try it. Just throw some seeds into the ground. Eventually, something will grow. In the sand box behind our building, there were a whole bunch of sunflower seedlings growing straight and Continue Reading

Berlin Diary: Found Photo
Posted on May 19, 2011 by xhiller
How fitting that, just then, something colorful against the dark brown earth caught my eye. A small stack of pulp magazines wrapped together with a “motz” magazine. Hmmm, this was ‘otherworldly’ indeed - and definitely from a different era.
I spread them out to look at them. The list price on the cover is in DM Continue Reading

Berlin Diary: L’ATLAS PUNITIONS - A ‘MAZE’ ING
Posted on April 28, 2011 by xhiller
L’ATLAS studied Arabic calligraphy with classic and modern masters in Morocco, Egypt and Syria and translates the geometric codes of traditional Kufic script into his own aesthetic writing. PUNITIONS (French for punishment) is a style of street art that uses repeated tags to ‘punish’ the surface. The style also recalls punishments taken as a child Continue Reading

Berlin Diary: TONA @ kotton.de
Posted on April 8, 2011 by xhiller
Berlin, mid-morning. Boy with a soda walking down the sidewalk. And nestled in the corner is a magenta tile by street artist TONA. The stenciled face of a boy peeping around the edge. This piece, perfectly placed next to building with a tiled facade, can be seen at Oranienstrasse 185. Thick sliding drops of mortar Continue Reading
