The Klaxons and the Gorillaz Sound System have both canceled their performances in Israel this week, apparently due to Israel’s deadly raid on the Gaza-bound humanitarian aid flotilla and the ensuing worldwide political fallout over the incident. (more…)

Noam Chomsky and Norman Finkelstein on Chomsky’s Barring From Palestinian Territory By Israeli Authorities

Linguist and political activist Noam Chomsky (watch his classic 1980s Paper Tiger TV analysis of the New York Times here) was refused entry into Palestinian territory by Israeli authorities on May 16. He had been invited to hold a lecture at Bir Zeit University in Ramallah/West Bank.

Chomsky has criticized the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory in the past. After protest at home and abroad, the Israeli authorities claim the refusal was “a misunderstanding” and are reconsidering. Chomsky passed on going to Ramallah and held the lecture via satellite from Amman. (more…)

Donate to Help Tuli Kupferberg Pay His Medical Bills

Tuli Kupferberg, 86 year old member of the legendary New York underground band The Fugs, has had a stroke. Because of the stroke he has lost his eyesight. There is hope that America will soon revamp their health care system. But many chronically ill people cannot pay their astronomical doctor bills. Kupferberg continues to work as best he can. He has contributed songs and does some singing on the new Fugs album,  Be Free.

Exhibition VT≠TV VIDEOTAPE IS NOT TELEVISION

The Galerie Olaf Stüber in Berlin is showing until May 8 a collection of  rarely seen 1970s US video art. These works are a radical critique of TV and re-define the triangular relationship between spectator, artist and medium. Chip Lord was a member of a 70s video artist collective known as Ant Farm, whose work is being exhibited in the show. Chip Lord’s scathing analysis of the militarised rhetoric in the 1980s blockbuster “Top Gun” is available on realyez.tv (NOT TOP GUN: CHIP LORD LOOKS AT THE HOLLYWOOD VERSION OF THE AIRFORCE ).
