Berlin Documentary Forum 1 at the House of World Cultures

Today June, 2, 2010, the event series Berlin Documentary Forum 1 opens at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, Germany.

The Berlin Documentary Forum 1 explores the role of documentary imagery in contemporary social processes. This thematic discourse will be held by way of lectures, exhibitions, film screenings and interventions. OK, one must admit that it all sounds rather academic. Perhaps the series seems to address less the people who are affected by the politics of the image than those who deal in media theory. Nonetheless, opening a space for this type of discussion is always a good thing. Hopefully people from a variety of disciplines will meet and participate in this discourse during the 5 days of the Documentary Forum. (more…)

Taiwan International Documentary Festival calls for entries

Established in 1998, Taiwan International Documentary Festival (TIDF) is now the second largest documentary festival in Asia, which shows about 120 works and attracts 60,000 attendants each edition. This year, TIDF will take place from October 22nd to 31st, 2010, at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung, Taiwan. From now on, the festival calls for entries for International Competitions (International Feature-Length Documentary and International Short-Length Documentary).

In addition, Asian Vision Award is set to highlight Asian characteristics, while Taiwan Award is to center attention on Taiwanese spirit. Deadline of the entry is June 15th, 2010. Entry fees are exempt, and the total cash prize is USD50,000.

You Can’t Be Neutral On A Moving Train
